Below is a message I sent to expatica site right now.
============================= Guys, Your "Belgian" news are so biased against Israel it seems you don't even put an effort to hide it. For me, Expatica is a site of news about Belgium. Look at your MAIN headline for expatica belgium today: "Israel expands offensive in southern Lebanon" Sorry but why the #$!@! do I need to see that in the Belgian news? It's not an EU related news, and I agree the whole situation between Israel and Lebanon is getting on the nerves of the world, but it really does not have anything to do with Belgium news. You don't report on the Belgian news that 600 KIDS DIE EVERY DAY in the DRC (Democratic Republic of Congo), you don't report on what's going on in Somalia, or Darfur. Why then report on Israel? Is it because you think Israel has no right to exist? Or you have your own political views which I understand - but can you please not use them when you tell me about "Belgian" news? |

Peaceful life - you mean like in Iraq in the days of Saddam, or Iran in the days of Humani, or do you mean in the days of the black september in Jordan? or do you mean in the days of the civil war in Lebanon? Or do you mean in the days of Egypt-Yemen wars? Or do you mean in the days of the grand mufti of Jerusalem who sent his people to join the Nazis?
Yeh blame it all on the Jews... I just hope that when Muslims will rule over Europe and the Sharia law will be the law in place, and when you're granddaughter will be slaughtered by your grandson just because she got married not as a virgin and he will act to return the family honor...I hope that then you will remember that there was one nation who tried to stop it. PS Join the club, Mel Gibson brought the jackets. Most Belgian newspapers are fervently anti-Israel. DeStandaard as I recall correctly was the only paper mentioning Hezbollah banners being carried around the streets of Brussels last weekend... in very small print tucked away.
Same goes for Belgians politicians... last weekend our Minister of Defence went to the Jewish memorial site for Holocaust victims in Anderlecht(that was vandalized)and... told Jews to stop the fighting in lebanon... Imagine being invited to deliver a speech at some-one's funeral and you start insulting the family. He has a thousand other possiblities of voicing his anger, but felt it necessary to do this at a vandalized memorial site. Of course Flahaut being PS has to consider all the Brussels Muslim votes for the upcoming communal elections... made my stomach turn. You want decent coverage, turn to the Dutch TV channels. PS: got inlaws in Beirut, including christians, syrian shiite.... most don't think so kindly of Hezbollah as some newspapers around here, couldn't imagine Hezbollah banners in Eastern Beirut. |

The worst exponent of this school of journalism is hezbollah-embedded Rudi Vrancx (VRT journalist)... I saw him screaming on screen to some Hezbollah henchman "Israel wants to destroy you, but you are strong"
It seems they took him of the lebanon case and gave it to his colleague Djamel Djerouk (Muslim decent) as they thought that guy would stand a better chance of being objective than Rudi. |

phlegmie - thanks for your replies, i learned a lot from them.
For me, Hezbollah is a terrorist organization. they don't want to see a free, open, western-oriented society Lebanon. They want to establish religious law. most people in Lebanon don't want that of course, but judging from the reports I see on Belgian TV it seems everyone in Lebanon are Hezbollah supporters. And yes, I think war is the worst possible option. But the next time someone will tell me Israel is over-reacting I will ask him if he believe Israel has the right to protect their citizens. if he will say (as most of my friends say) "yes but Israel should only attack Hezbollah and not the innocent people in Lebanon" I will stick a finger in his eye and immidiatly tell him "Hey, you're only allowed to hit my finger - don't hurt my innocent body". Then I will do it again and again - until he will get the point. |

See the link below and then re-think if what you "know" which is based on what you "see" is the truth.
Simply disgusting! <a href="http://eureferendum.blogspot.com/2006/07/milking-it.html" Target="_BLANK">http://eureferendum.blogspot.com/2006/07/m...-it.html</a> |

On average Belgians are anti-Israel... don't believe for a second they grasp the nuances of Israeli Arabs, Palsestinian Christians, Duze communities, Maronnites... to them it's monolithic Israel crushing the poor Lebanese... Lebanon was recinstructing finally and in spite of the Hariri murder, the stir around liberating Gagegea things looked better than ever in 30 years' time... all blown to pieces by Iranian missiles.... I got really angry with the Hezbollah banners in Brussels because that's how all of this started in the Lbenanon... a war that wasn't theirs got imported. This is not our war. I don't want synagogues in Belgium to burn, I don't want people around here supporting movements that advocate paramilitary theocentrism as a societal paradigm. But my countrymen are blind... Western Europe stands out because religion is of little importance in our societies. I am attached to that trait, it's part of our identity... but we no longer seem to care. |

************************************ this is a typical european answer: "if you don't like it here, you can always leave!". ************************************ Great to learn that being biased is a European value. I thought being European means you hold ideals of democracy and human rights. But those ideals are valid as long as the muslim from around the world are not involved. After all, you will never protest about Saudi Arebia lack of rights for woman, about the fact that being homosexuals in that country means you have the right to die, or about the rights of christians to have a church to pray in it. You will also never protest about the killing in Darphur which naturally does not count because they are just black people. So maybe I finally got your mindset. For you, being a European means we must follow a thumb role which is: "when it comes to Human rights and democracy in other countries it's not my business...as long as we are not talking about Israel and then it's my highest moral duty to tell Israel they are nothing but a vicious country" Are you another member of Mel Gibson club? |

Obviously you are full of prejudices (streotypes, and maybe hatred, toward certain groups). I was merely adressing your original post (read it again please) and my answer is: "if you don't like it here, you can always leave!" |

While the person who originally started this thread may or may not have a point, it seems this whole site is geared toward European news if not global news. With that said, it is very fitting that news items concerning Israel are posted here. The Jewish nation is a global nation and it concerns everyone.
