I used this site the other day and found an apartment, seems useful as it has all the agents properties on it in one site, anyway might be useful for someone, http://www.xpatrentals.com

Great thanks for this web link.

Can anyone else suggest any places to look for appartments in Amsterdam?

I am studying here til Feb and then need to find a place as current student housing is not available.

Has anyone had any luck/experiences with house minding?

thanks heaps.

if you're just looking for something short term perhaps a room? I think thats the more popular option for people studying, and its far less complicated than renting your own apartment.

When we moved here a couple of years back, we use IDA Housing. They were really helpful and did us a nice deal on the commission that all agencies charge. Happy to keep going until we found something. One tip, most agencies have access to each other's lists, so you only need see one or two to get access to most of what is on offer!

Their site is

Why do I get this weird suspicious that some people on this thread work for the agencies they're recommending?

Hmmmmm....
