Sorry, I can't help you, but perhaps you can help me? My brother-in-law is getting transferred to Singapore in February 2006. He's a hip and cool thirtysomething Flemish guy who works for KBC, in their back office for options and futures. Perhaps you'd agree to meet up with him or e-mail him to give him some "inside information" about life in Singapore?

He just lobbied particularly hard to get a posting in Asia. Last year they turned him down for Hong Kong so I guess they couldn't pull the same deal twice with Singapore. |

My guy lobbied particularly hard to get a posting in Asia too. Singapore turned him down for being: 1.a lobbyist, 2.a mere mortal 3.so he is lobbying for Hong Kong next.

I live in Vilvoorde, work in Brussels.
I came here for both work and love. How about yourselves - how did you end up in Belgium ? How long have you been here? Do you join the outings of the Singapore Club or Malaysian Club? Also, can you speak the languages? Always, curious how everyone blends in to the new environment. Its been ok for me so far. But would be great if you can tell me some VERY good Singapore/ Malaysia restaurants |

Hola chicas! I am still in Spain.. will be flying back to Belgium on 12 Aug.
Well I´ve been in Belgium since Dec 2003, so coming up to 3 years. I moved here for love (of coz, same old story).. Also would explain why I live in Hasselt (Limburg) and not one of the more international/accessible areas.. I work freelance and dabble in a lot of things. My French is non-existent and I can get by in Flemish. I´ve been to some of the Singapore club gatherings, but they tend to be filled with older people with kids who have settled here permanently.. the gatherings also tend to be held mainly in Brussels or Antwerp, and as I don´t drive it´s usually a bit of a hassle to get to. I do make it a point to go to the Singapore embassy gathering for National Day if I am in the country. There is one Singapore/Malaysia restaurant in Antwerp that a lot of Singlaysians go to - it´s called Kuala Lumpur, and is located very near to the central train station. Exit the station from the left (opposite entrance from the zoo) and walk towards the UGC cinemas, you will come across a row of restaurants and Kuala Lumpur is located there. This restaurant serves more Chinese-based Singlaysian dishes. If you want more Malay-based Singlaysian dishes, there is a good one across the border in Holland. It´s called Layang Layang and is in Eindhoven. That´s it for now.. TA! |

Aha, tell me about it. I miss the Klang Bah Kut Teh and seafood terribly! You know, kamhiong crabs, hokkien mee, roti canai etc etc.
Anyway, you can pick up some easy flemish from this site www.flandria.tk Enjoy! |
