I have been on a book-buying spree lately (so much to read, and only one lifetime!). One of my purchases was Vikram Seth's "A suitable boy". Has anyone else read this? What did you think? I got it because I read about Vikram Seth in another book I'm halfway through ("Writers on Writing").

Other recent purchases include:
Helene Hanff "84 Charing Cross Road" (loved the film)
C.S. Lewis "The Chronicles of Narnia" (all gathered into one volume - yay!)
D.H. Lawrence - Complete poetry collection (yummy).

Next on the list:
The latest edition of Sylvia Plath's diaries (two further ones added).
Robert Sullivan's "Rats: A Year with New York's Most Unwanted Inhabitants" (can't wait to read this one).

Also just got given "The Gunslinger" (Stephen King, first in the Dark Tower series) by Arni, and have been lent pretty much everything by Neil Gaiman (including the Sandman series) by a friend.

I am in reading heaven!! <img src="../images/emoticons/ybigrin.gif">

Vikram Seth is a great author, and I thoroughly enjoyed his "A Suitable Boy". A dicksonian Indian soap opera!! I am Indian by origin, so I could draw a lot of parallels between the story and my own life growing up in India, but the story takes you through the history of India, gives you a insight into indian culture, and the unavoidable hindu-muslim conflict that every indian faces in thier daily lives is made evident in the story line.

You should check out http://www.shelfari.com. I am a member there, and its a great forum to network with other book lovers. My username is bookchica on that site.

Cheers and happy reading!
