My wife and I are considering a job offer in Antwerp. After 12 years in Paris, we have grown quite accustomed to convenient access to excellent fresh food markets, natural foods, free range meats and poultry, etc. We are concerned that the overall standard in Antwerp is lower. The big Saturday outdoor market near the Meir, which we recently visited, was a real disappointment; origin of food items (incl. fruits and vegetables) not labeled, questionable hygiene (I was surprised to see a young foodseller urinating in full public view - and we're used to the French, who at least turn their backs!), and overall low quality. Did we miss something? Are there other outdoor markets during the week? And finally, what about the cost of good food in Antwerp (food bought to prepare at home)? We love to cook, are are worried about lowered standards should we move to Antwerp. Thanks for reponding.

I am sure you won´t starve.
I found that Antwerp food is of good quality - I only eat raw food. |

well, that's good news. But what about outdoor markets, fresh fish, natural meat, etc? Are there parts of Antwerp that are better served than others in terms of butchers, fishmongers, fruits and vegetables?
