A reader sent this comment in to me and asked me to post it on the forum:

"When I was at Schiphol airport recently, I saw that the ticket machines for the trains have an ‘Easy Ticket’ to Amsterdam. The English language page on the screen automatically selects a first class single for €6.60 so the unwitting passenger is easily taken advantage of. They are not told about the standard fare which is considerably cheaper. This seems rather unfair...perhaps the VVV should know of this , too!"

How dare they. The NS is having too many marketing boys and girls who clearly need some ethics training. However, I have always found their complaints dept to be extremely unhelpful, so better to contact VVV, city of Amsterdam, and the airport, so that they can put pressure on NS.

I hope they will learn that squeezing money out of people in this way will only turn otherwise friendly people against them. They should be ashamed

Welcome to the Netherlands, don't be shocked because of that. There is more to wait for you.

Are you Dutch? You are making such a fuss for only €6.60 laugh.gif You'd rather pay €50 for a rough taxi ride through half of Amsterdam with an ignorant driver? Good Lawd! I don't know how much second class fare costs but I would always choose the comfort of first class on such a short trip.
