Aside of this forum I haven't started to advertise the apartment yet, and as this forum has few visitors I've had no more than 10 or so interested persons. Of those some have animals or would like the place too far in the future (or very weird demands). I've had a couple visiting last Friday and they phoned me less than an hour ago that they would like to sign the contract tomorrow. After that the Gemeente has to agree too.

So unless something goes wrong tomorrow, the apartment is taken. If all goes well, i'll post it here.

I signed a contract this afternoon. The chances of this contract being broken are very slim. If anything happens though, I will post it here.

I hope you can find a place soon. I've been in the same situation plenty of times and know how hard it is. Please don't overpay, and if you have the feeling you are overpaying, remember you can complain with the Gemeente and get your money back. Generally any place below 60m2 which are rented out indefinitely should be no more than 800 euros.

Thanks for your note. I am looking for an apartment from the 1st of September for up to 3 months. Anything that is not more than 45 min by train from Amsterdam would be fine. Price around 800 euros. Are you aware of any website where owners advert their own properties without the help of agencies? I don't want to pay the agency fee in other words!

The apartment is taken.

Amstelveen is a suburb of Amsterdam. They are connected to eachother. Public transport runs bus and metro services to the Amsterdam city centre.

Amstelveen is a seperate city than Amsterdam, albeit one with an indistiguishable border between the two cities.

That said, it has it's own mayor, own local rules (i.e. NO coffeeshops, etc.), it's own markets, city centre, etc..

I know, but for the GVB it's more of a suburb. And for those who don't care about a city name it is too. I mean, you don't really notice entering or leaving Amstelveen/Amsterdam. And as soon as the Amsterdam Metropolis/District? project will start people will consider places like Amstelveen and Hoofddrop more and more as suburbs.
