I would like to know if the $80K-ish exemption applies to each person filing individually or per family when doing your US taxes from abroad? My wife and I do our 2555's separately, so it looks like we would each get the exemption, but I'd like to be sure about that without paying some vastly overpriced tax advisor wink.gif (maybe we're not supposed to do them separately?)

If for any reason it is combined, would I need to use my bruto self-employed income, or netto - the bruto is quite high as it's before all the investment/expenses, so I would hope I wouldn't get taxed in the US on that.

Any info from people who've been through this would be appreciated!

I believe it is per person if filed separately?
