I read the other topic about Dutch music and I thought the music in it was shit.
Too commercial too much syntheseiser just not good
So I give you some real good Dutch music

old:
First we have Armand, the Dutch Bob Dylan. He had a big hit with "ben ik te min" - http://youtube.com/watch?v=UD-24X0EeIU
But he wrote more songs, some are avaiable on youtube. recommended and het still performs!

then Amsterdam pride the Outsiders! Very famous in the Netherlands and a cult act in other countries. The lead singer recently died. They are very good - http://youtube.com/watch?v=JIVAFcVpnf8
http://youtube.com/watch?v=2Onx187pt3s&feature=related

Cuby and the Blizzards. Pop-Blues. They were very famous from the farmlands but still performing their big hit: http://youtube.com/watch?v=BWxTqkABmRY
And another song:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=wpAywZ10Rdo&feature=related

The Ex: Our best punk band. Now they make experimental music : http://youtube.com/watch?v=S_h7aGqKo90
http://youtube.com/watch?v=Z6YaBmjwK64&feature=related

on Dutch punk, there is more on compilation cd's

new (not so old):
Harry Merry. Very crazy music with crazy syntheseizer: http://youtube.com/watch?v=V8HaLTWTtCs

Machinefabriek: Beautifull exprerimental music : http://www.myspace.com/machinefabriek

Tocada Records: Best record label for punk and crazy music: http://www.myspace.com/tocadorecords

Julie Mittens: Noise but beautifull www.myspace.com/juliemittens

This is the REAL Dutch music. Not the idiot volksmuziek
Most of it is singed in English, thats because the Dutch language is hard one for singing

more commercial of course but also good is Racoon, and Anouk. I also really like Betty Serveert http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zXIPlPJjCA8 (brilliant song) although they are based in the US

New Cool Collective - www.newcoolcollective.com

Also worth checking out is http://3voor12.vpro.nl/luisterpaal/

Allows you to listen and 'try before you buy' new albums (not just Dutch, but does feature a lot of new NL music). Also includes live performances from concerts & festivals.

If you like indie-type stuff, there's an old group called The Nightblooms that was not too bad...The Ex are also decent. And an old punk band called The Boegies which had a great song "I Want To Be An Egg" (So You Can Be The Bacon).....

And I loved Urban Dance Squad's first album, thought maybe that was in the "too commercial" catgeory....

Harry Merry is pretty bad.

There's plenty of Dutch language stuff worth listening to:

Do not forget the best Dutch punk song: I'm sure we're gonna make it by Ivy Green

"Mens" was a recent good track from Blof.

No one mentioned Golden Earring, fronted by half-Scottish singer, Barry Hay?

Before all the Dutch community jump on my half-Scottish comment, Barry Hay's father WAS Scottish, as was, believe it or not, Bob Marley's father!!!

I like, as someone else mentioned, New Cool Collective and my favourite Dutch group is Room Eleven. They are really polished and well worth a listen. I have both their albums and have set about trying to convert other friends to them. If you like jazz/swing/a little pop mixed in - try their albums (2 to date). I also, many years ago, used to like Jan Akkerman too but you don't very often hear of him any more .(Although to be truthful - I couldn't bear Focus.)

Room Eleven are really good....I like the latest one (and the singer is a bit of alright- if I may be so bold as to lower the tone - again )
I like a couple of Blof and Spinvis numbers too.
Herman Brood & His Wild Romance did some good stuff and he was really good live back in the day.
Room Eleven are in the paradiso soon but it was sold out really quick ...if I remember rightly.
Are Zion Train dutch ?

Definitely NOT Dutch!
Only one member lived in the Netherlands for a very short period & that's it.

Giant bicycles are another example, most Dutchies think it's a Dutch company but it's not at all, in a similar way they think Boney M are Dutch when their not.

I've just looked at Wiki.

Just because one member lives here doesn't make the whole band 'Dutch' does it?
The other members were brought up & lived in England, so the Dutch people can shove it up their ass!

Stupid hangups as usual, it's like their desperate to have bands & products to be their own.

When I think of Boney M I think of Bobby Farell, he is the boney skinny dude and he's from Aruba.
So in a way he's Dutch, that's all.

But yeah ummm atleast Denmark has a real rocker (Metallica dude) so in that sense them wooden folks in Holland don't really have jack.
