Al's Plaice has really gone downhill since it was sold and I've promised my arteries I won't eat there again. Does anyone know of anywhere decent selling fish and chips? Wasn't there supposed to be somewhere opening up in Den Haag?

Thanks,
Catherine

Catherine, I missed your post.

A couple of weeks back I ended up in Ali's Plaice and ordered the fish and chips, it was absolute trash. The fish had obviously been frozen (eons ago?) and just crumbled away like slimy saw dust, i.e. no bite, at all. Luckily, my craving for this taste of Scotland/Britain/wherever is usually about a bi-annual affair. There was another Fish and Chip shop opened about a year back on Damstraat, called Chipsy King. But ALL the reports I got were that it was cr@p.

Heard rumours over one opening in Den Haag too, but that was it ... rumours.

Tell me about it. I eat there for the last time a while back (apparently, Al left for New Zealand and the guy that has it now owned half of the business anyway. Shame he never learnt how to cook properly!) ... the fish wasn't properly cooked and when I told the guy he explained to me that that was the way it was supposed to be cooked and that if he cooked it anymore it would ruin the goodness of the fish. Well, I'm sorry but I have never ever eaten before under cooked fish and never want to again. He recooked me another one and left it cooking for longer but I'm afraid it was still disappointing. sad.gif I wont be going back there again... unless I fancy a chicken & mushroom pie and chips in passing.

Chester's Kitchen is now indeed doing Fish 'n Chips in The Hague. For the next couple of weeks only on Thursday and Friday evenings from 17:30 to 20:30 - but Wednesday and Saturday will be added as the holidays end and life gets back to normal.

The website has just been updated with more info regarding the Fish 'n Chips side of the business.

So it wasn't just another rumor!

Kind regards,

Chester

Wesley, I'm sure that if you lived in Den Haag it'd be a blessing in disguise. just a pity the service and other bakery items aren't available in Amsterdam. sad.gif

I live in Den Haag and it's certainly a blessing!
I think I'm going to stop by after work today and full myself up, it's going to be great!

I'd alter the pricing a wee bit, as it shows that all the small portions of fish are MORE expensive than the large ones.

No black pudding or white pudding on the menu? sad.gif

I had Surinamese blackpudding last Saturday during the Delft Jazz Festival. It was not too bad... The last White Pudding I had was in Antwerp about a month ago. It was delicious! You know the kind: home made, with the green spots, called "boudin blanc liégeois" (white pudding from Liège). My soulmate will be visiting me next month. She will bring me "boudin" (= blackpudding) from Tallulah in Louisiana. That's the real stuff! Flames coming out of your ears, nostrils, mouth and other hole!
