I've just been assigned a work project in Israel, which will require semi-frequent travel for the next four months or so.
I'm not going to be cruising the bars or anything, but was wondering if anyone can provide insight as to what the general attitude is towards homosexuals in the workplace. I'm quite sure that the Israeli people I'll be working with will hear through the grapevine that I'm gay, as this has happened to me before. It's possible that they may already know... I can always turn down this project. It's not worth any grief, and someone else can take it on if needed. I would like to do it, though. |

If you're in Tel Aviv then you'll be fine as that is a modern, liberal city with a good gay scene.
If you're in Jerusalem then I'd stay in the closet until you know your colleagues a lot better. As Jerusalem is regarded as sacred to some of the world's biggest cults (islam; christianity and judaism) it is an extremely conservative place and as a result can be quite intolerant. |
