Folks,

I just heard some very alarming stuff from my relocation person:

- no, most apartments do not have built-in closets or closets in general
- negotiating the price of an apartment is not a common habit in Belgium (other prices neither)
- you’ll never find washing machines and dryers in an apartment, but on the other hand as Ghent is also a University city you find all over the place Laundromats

Can someone out there please confirm?

Thanks!

Most apartments do NOT have built in closets. We have one closet in the entire house, much to my dismay. It's also 1m square and 1.5m high. TINY.

Not sure about Ghent, as I'm in Namur, but we have hook-ups for them. We, however, had to buy them ourselves.

As for negotiating, my husband says you can negotiate the price of a house/apartment/condo to buy ("But not too much!", he adds). However, I'm not sure about rental apartments.

I hope you're doing well in Belgium!
