When you talk about which is best? I think it is hard to decide because best in what sense.
Operating system do lots of things and have different kinds of user thats the reason we have all different kinds of version from Home, Professional, Business to Entertainment to Scientific or may be Realtime etc. One version is best for one thing then can be from different make and company. Like no one can beat Linux or RTOS from real time processing similarly no one can beat Mac in graphics and user interface.

Although it is hot topic but I prefer to keep away myself from this debate also now Apple's aggressive entry into pc world and my less experience with Mac makes it worse.

But in future I think users should be ready for more graphical dose with Microsoft's Surface technology everything will change soon, that is also something I am eagerly waiting for.

But I think Vista is pure copy of features from Apple's Mac OS X and done it badly ; I see lots of guy reverting back to XP.

Linux is again not standard I mean there are hundreds or even more flavors of it available on internet with every flavor having advantage of its own. But as a developer my heart goes for Linux.

As a developer I would go for Linux personally the reason being you can code to kernel level and also make your own device driver. I remember how my brother (who is embedded system guy) use to play with Linux and changes the way it behaves.

Cheers,

Could you elaborate on that drunk?

I agree with royalblood, just take the OS that fits you best.

Now that the Eee PC with larger SSD's is out I'm looking forward to see how Linux on the Desktop suits me. (or i might go for a dualboot on my current old and struggling laptop first)
