Has anyone been to Akbar near Leidseplein?? To be honest, it's on par and perhaps even better than Balti House (which was my fave)- I'll give it another go, but it is definitely worth a visit in my opinion, but I've seen few references to it on the boards...

I'm going to cast a vote for the Maurya. Lived in Delhi for a good while and authentic regional dishes dishes can be a bit hard to find in Amsterdam. Here they added some spinach and extra spice to my curry on request. Very good all round.

For the record, I voted for The Balti House, as it seems to be the only one I've tried that consistently 'hits-the-spot', having tried the majority of the poll restaurants and a few less-signifigant (read 'atrocious') others. That said, I've been recommended Shiva by a couple of friends but, as yet, haven't had an opportunity to dine there.

However, I would say that the best I've tried in Holland was actually in Haarlem, on the main street leading down from V&D, but I can't recall it's name. I went a few times a while back and it was superb, but I rarely visit Haarlem nowadays, unfortunately.

http://www.khanakhazana.com/businesses/k_i...p;t=The%20Hague

Can't really find any in depth reviews to go on, but this may hint at the more well known ones.

If I had to pick one I'd go for the Bombay Palace http://www.bombay-palace.nl/ perhaps..?

Thank you very much Fatcontroller! Once I had to be around in that neighbourhood and I tried to look inside to see what it looked like but I couldn't detect anything except that it was spectacularly empty! So I gave up... However I do secretly hope that Bassie, who professes to know everything about food and drinks and lives in the immediate vicinity of The Hague, will have the amability to tell me where I can safely try a good chicken tandoori and samosas! smile.gif

Yes, the Daper Markt on a Saturday. In the middle sort of round bit near Macdonalds there is/was an Indian food van. They serve(d) wonderful, round like tennis ball, lamb and pea samosas with perfect yogurt dip. Don't travel too far though! It's been a while and there's a chance it's not there anymore...

I have a recipe for them also if you're interested?

Emilio, I'll be in the Dappermarkt area this afternoon. I'll double check and post my findings rather than you heading on the train to Muiderpoort. smile.gif

As an aside, I was walking past the Dapperplein yesterday and noticed that there's a new KFC adjacent to the McDonalds 'restaurant'. Signs in the windows proclaimed "We are Open"... well, NOT according to the kid at the door shooing people (myself included!) away ... ah, life in Holland! wink.gif

I made some enquiries in the neighbourhood yesterday afternoon, principally with the owner of a bar adjacent to where the Indian food 'tent' WAS. Was being the operative word. Apparently it's disappeared. Apologies for being the bearer of bad news, emilio.

Nope. Joke from the Cafe Dober - the BEST Gehaktbal Broodjes in town! - told me that it had disappeared somewhile back. Do you also live in the neighbourhood?

I'm going to have to make some, lamb and pea samosas that is, not meat ball sandwiches biggrin.gif

Yes also in the Oost zone. I just ordered some lamb and veg ones from the takeaway near the Oosterpark. Distinctly average...

Which one? Indian Roti Room or the Humrah?

There's an Indian near Akhbar, right next to the Last Waterhole that has Lamb Samosas on its menu - I've been meaning to just order some as takeaway to see if they rate...I'll let everyone know...glad to know I'm not the only one craving these things!
