I have been here now for 5 years in brussels - made some friends etc . we use to go out alot at the weekends and have a blast . But now I am at that stage where all my friends have managed to find partners and have settled down . So now although I still have friends I don't see them as often as I use - as they want to spend significant quality time with their significant ones - which is fair enough .Unfortunately I can never get to this stage as I do believe guys do not see me as having the right quality to be a girl friend or even to date .Not too sure why but thats's way it is .
I done online dating , speed dating , joined courses etc - but so far nada .
Now I am happy that being single I have done alot of travelling weekends and have hobbies etc , do work socials etc . But if I end up staying in brussels for the weekends I don't go out as I have no one to go out any more . And it is getting frustrating now. I don't want to go out every weekend but it would be nice to do it now then to let my hair down .
I am running out of ideas on what to do to get out of this rut - as one gets older ( I am 36) it is harder to make new friends .

Have you ever tried going out in Antwerp? I know it's not exactly next door but it's worth a try. Quite a few English people I know much prefer Antwerp to Brussels. OK, it's a lot smaller and perhaps there's not so much going on as in Brussels but it is more compact (and so much easier to get around without a car) and IMHO has more soul. There's no shortage of bars, restaurants etc.

I am in fact a Belgian citizen but after spending 10 years in England (seven of which as a child) I feel almost English and most people take me for an Englishman.

Let me know if you'd like to be introduced to Antwerp.
