Does anyone know of a (good) fishmonger in Amsterdam Center? Specifically, I would like to buy some Monkfish tails.

There was recently some fish shop in Amsterdam (with a branch in Utrecht too) awarded some seriously prestigious international award for the quality of it's wares, however, as a (mainly) non-fish eater I didn't pay attention to the name. Maybe a Google will pull up the info?
As an aside. I remember years ago, the BBC Nationwide programme highlit the fact that many restaurants were serving up Monkfish tails as "Scampi". My father told me the fishmonger he passed daily in Glasgow put up the price of Monkfish the following day TEN Fold!!! Monkfish must rank in the Top Ten of MOST Ugly fish! -------------------- "Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. There is a swanky fish shop on the Utrechtse Straat. Bit over priced, but they often stock monkfish. Especially delicious wrapped in a good ham and baked, throw in some small tomatoes, halved, drizzled with olive oil and a bit of fresh rosemary whilst your at it... Shit, I'm going to get some munch...

I think that is the shop I was refering to. -------------------- "Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. Thin shop with a counter on the right as you walk in and a downstairs section, in the freezers they have good quality fish stock :-)
Last time I was in bagged some fat juicy scallops. Served them (pan fried - butter) on bok choy leaves, quinels of coriander butter and all topped with roasted hazelnuts. |
