Hi,
I am looking for a place to rent in Brussels and would like to know more about the safety of different zones. In particular, I would like to know more about Ixelles (near the Uniersity and also near the Porte de Namur underground station), St Gilles, Louise and Schaerbeek.

If you could give some pointers with respect to this, I would be thankful

the places you have mentioned are not that safe. etterbeek, ixelles, woluwe st lambert are good, though in some places not so good so depends. near the university you are ok are you going to study there or working? porte de namur is busy with shoppers i used to live near there years ago it is ok.

what is your budget and how big a place are you looking for?

What about Sint-Agatha-Berchem. is it a safe neighbourhood?
Does it have good transport links?

Thanks macklamm.
I currently live in Glasgow so as long as I can go outside after 8pm without being harassed by gangs of feral children and teens, then it's a good area in my book.

Can't give you a detailed advice, just that anything near the EU quarters is good living.
Aside of that I found it important to be near the metro as i do not want to have a car. I found the metro very safe, but I can imagine there are stops where it's not pleasant.
