Four weeks ago I moved from The Hague to Utrecht, so it’s about time to start building a social network in this city!

I’m looking for some smart, energetic and active people M/W in their 30s/40s, living in/near Utrecht with a broad, open mind, who occasionally feel like meeting up in the evening or weekend, which can be even as simple as having a drink and interesting conversation in a –not so smoky- café.

I’m a 31 year old, Dutch woman, working as an international environmental and sustainability consultant with a major consultancy and engineering firm. Besides that I do some volunteer work in that field as well, and regularly attend interesting meetings in the Randstad area.

I moved quite a bit within and outside the Netherlands over the last 8 years, travelled extensively as a backpacker in Asia/Latin-America, and I still work at least once a year as a tourleader abroad. I’m usually a pretty active and outgoing person, with more ideas and interests than hours in the day. I really like the outdoors, and love to explore, culture and nature, as well as new horizons. And finally...I very much enjoy regularly meeting new people!

If you think you might feel like a drink+chat in Utrecht..., let me know!

Hi Renilde,

I am Esperanza, Spanish (but left Spain 20 years ago), living in Utrecht since September (for 5 years). Editor/translator on science/technology/EU affairs. Also in need to build a social network here, I will be happy to meet you for a drink and a chat.
Cheers

I'm not in my 30s/40s yet (25 next month) but can see myself in the rest of the description and am always up for a drink! cool.gif

I'm a father of two, in my 30/40s, open minded and en.... Well three out of four isn't too bad!
I've been living in Utrecht for 13 years and posted here several times (Old expats need friends too) looking for the occasional drinking buddy in the city. I'm currently going over to Gouda once a month to meet up with Living With A Dutchie members (a group for Expats who came to Holland for Love!). However, I would be happy to find a group closer to home.

Soory for the late reply back to you! With not a single reply to my post in the first month, and the frequent problems that I experience to log in to Expatica (plus I did not receive a notice in my mailbox of your messages) I was not very keen anymore on visiting the Expatica forum.

But shall we try to meet up for a drink in Utrecht (in the evening)?

Fine for me, I have a preference for Mondays or Wednesdays. Busy the other evenings. Cheers.

Hey Renilde, I'm Valentino, recently moved from Italy because of my job.
I like also meeting people drinking something together, but I don't have yet friends here.
So, please let me know about your meeting with other people, because I would be
happy to join you.

Valentino

Ok, lets pick a date and a place. I'd personally prefer not on a school night (as I'm a teacher) so how about Friday or Saturday night? Does anyone have an idea about venue? It would be good to have a place that's not too noisy - my sensive old ears you know smile.gif

HI everyone,
Just thought I´d make a suggestion for a venue. O´Connels, Irish pub in Utrecht is a place where lots of foreigners go.

Let me know when you plam to go, I might join you.

I would like to join a meeting in Utrecht (been living in Vleuten nr Utrecht for 20 years). I'm from San Francisco, originally british, have three kids and would like to meet up with some expats. I'm working for a purely dutch company and I miss the international-minded people.
I know Holland pretty well, spend alot of time in Den Haag and Rotterdam.

Ok, so end of the week seems to be feasible for some. A Mon or Wed evening for others.

What about either coming Friday evening (11th) or otherwise next week Monday-evening (14 th)?

Time-wise: 'before or after dinner'-time? Myself I could make it to the centre around 18.30-19 hr or otherwise around +/- 21 hr.

I have not been to O'Connels yet, but if it's not too smoky (from cigarettes, which I personally don't like) I'm fine with it. Winkel van Sinkel café could be an option in terms of space.

(Hopefully there'll be some concensus in the answers on the topics above....;-)

Cheers!,

Actually my Living With a Dutchie night is this coming Friday but Friday 18th would be ok. I agree about the smokey thing but am happy with both possible venues. WvS is definately better lit but if you want to hide in the semi-darkness maybe MoC is a better choice wink.gif

Hi there,

just stumbled across your posting. I'm originally German, but used to live in UK (Leicester & Essex) and USA (San Francisco & North Carolina).

My darling husband and I moved to NL about six years ago, just before the birth of our son (and have been stuck here ever since wink.gif ).

We now live in the village of Maarssen, just north of Utrecht. It's quite a nice & family oriented neighborhood, but I do miss the international flair.

It'd be really nice to meet some new (expat) friends!

Gr,
Antje

Wakey, wakey guys.

Come on lets reactivate this thread. I know there are enough ppl here to have at least half a dozen get together for a drink. All in favour say "Aye" (he says raising his flagon confidently to the sky and then watches as the tumble weed blows silently through the room).

Hi there!

Two months ago I moved to Utrecht for a new job. My colleagues are very nice, but they have other plans for Queens Night and Day. After reading the messages in this BLOG I got the impression that there might be people interested in spending the time together. I am a kind of curious what is going to happen then in town.

Let me know if you are in!
