Hi, I'm new in Antwerp as of 3 months ago. I'm currently a stay at home mum to 2 kids (3 and 1) and need some other female friends to get out and about with. Coffee, bike ride, walk at Middelheim.....anything! Don't care if you don't have kids so long as you don't mind that I do.

Antwerp isn't the easiest of cities to socialize in.

I'd recommend (if you have the time and patience) to get into a group activity. I'm not sure how it works for young mothers, but language school, dance, and theatre have opened up a lot of social avenues for me in the last 20 months.

Getting by in English here isn't a problem, but you might want to consider taking a language class to deal with peksy official correspondence with the powers-that-be if you're planning on an extended stay

Besta luck!

Hi Mia,
I don't live in Antwerp, but just accross the border Near to Kapellen/Putte. I'm not sure how far that is from you? I often go to Antwerp at weekends with my husband to have a look in the shops. My kids are now grown up and I'm 39.
There are a few English women in Roosendaal and one friend pops over to visit me. I don't have a car so it's quite awkward to get to visit friends.

Thanks for the tip. I plan on doing a language course, but its a little difficult with the kids at the moment. Maybe I'll be able to juggle it as soon as I get my 3yr old into a good school.
Cheers

Hi and thanks for your reply. I live very close to the city (just near Koning Alberpark) about 10 mins by bike from Antwerp central station. I don't have a car either..... we pretty much travel everywhere by bike with a kiddy trailer. I'm 37 (started a little late!). Do you or your friends ever head to Antwerp during the week?

I will ask my friend if any of the other mums go that way. I'm not sure, she has a bigger network of friends than I do. I rarely go to Antwerp during the week as I don't really know anyone that side of the border and so I only go for shopping at weekends. I'll have a word with my friend about it I'll let you know smile.gif

Mia,

A bunch of us from language school and other assorted friends might go out for a few drinks later this month. If you and your partner would like to join us, give me a shout.

Btw used to live around the corner from you, right off the Stadspark. Just moved closer to the center a few months ago

'Tangoaires',
Thanks for the invitation. Drinks sounds great but logistically a little difficult . Are you up for a cuppa sometime?

Thanks......
If no-one heads this way then maybe I could head up towards that way by bus or something. Is it about 30-40 mins by bus?? I'm not getting much of a response from anyone in Antwerp itself...
cheers

Hey Mia,

That sounds good. I'm in Dutch classes 3 times a week, and in BxL this weekend, so maybe sometime next weekend? Miss tangoaires will be swivelling down from BxL so maybe in a nice quaint cafe somewhere in Antwerp next weekend (if that works for you)?

I'm at Linguapolis. A nice fun, multi-cultural class...

Hi Mia,

I live in Berchem with my fiancee...I'm 25 from the UK and also moved to antwerp end of last year and although I don't have kids myself I'd be up for a chat...besides in a few years who knows, ill probably already have kids! Anyways, I'm looking to meet some more expats here in antwerp (its quite difficult isnt it??) so if you would like you can always email me at n_makinson@hotmail.com.
Hope to hear from you soon!

Natasha
