I'll confess I am not American, but hoped someone here might be kind enough to help me.

Hi everyone, I am looking for some opinions on a move to Antwerp. We are a family with a toddler, and are currently living in Tervuren - but would like to move to Antwerp, it's a bit quiet for us here, and we would like to live in a city again. So I have a few questions I hope someone can help me with.

Is Antwerp a nice place, is there lots to do we are in our late 20's?

What are good areas to live in and where should we avoid - we would prefer to be in the centre - in a town house type of property?

Are there many expats - is it easy to make friends?

Any opinions on the Lycee as a school?

Many thanks for any replies, any advice is appreciated.

I moved to Belgium from the US. I live in Antwerp now, postcode 2018 on Mechelsesteenweg. It's an awesome location just outside the "lei" area, and great access to both the old city and the highway.

We love Antwerp. I have not met a lot of Americans here yet, but there is the American Antwerp Association that is based out of Brasschat that can offer possibilities to socialize and meet other Americans in the Antwerp area if you want. I work fulltime and so the AAA activities and social gatherings are a bit inconvenient for me.

I would recommend the Belgielie, Mechelsesteenweg, or anywhere close to the Stadspark as good areas if you dont want old city prices, but still live close enough to enjoy the convenience.

Thanks for the reply, but we will keep looking in Central Antwerp and Wilrijk. Any opinions out there on Wilrijk - and any advice on schools in the area.
