You may have seen me post all over the place, but I'm really determined to make my 'move' work. I'll be in Belgium weekdays and in London weekends. It will be nice to meet up with other Brits, so I can facilitate the acclamitisation process and adjust accordingly. Thanks.

Hi tallgaluk, saw your message on the site so i thought i would give it a go, just became a meber last night! You dont say too much about yourself, so let me introduce myself. I am Kirsty, recently moved to Mons in Belgium four months ago, and finding it hard going. Trying to get any contacts i can to make my life a little bit easier. As i said moved here four months ago with my daughter, i stay with my partner who is from Belgium. Back home i was a senior staff nurse in mental health, now i somrtimes feel i need the help! only joking. Anyway, have found life in Belgium difficult at times, the last four months have slipped by, i was helping my partner with his buisness, and now i am at a loose end, i know i need to learn the language and my only way of survival is to get out there and get a job. I am a very happy person, easy going and really eager to help myself. Do you have any suggestions, it would be great to hear from you, and any advice you can give. kirsty rolleyes.gif

Hi Kirsty. I know what you mean about life here being frustrating at times without the language. I imagine in your case you will not be able to work in your field without French. I get by in French but am really looking at the English-speaking job market. I do like it here in Belgium, though. There are many good things about it, though the very dark mornings are getting on my nerves. Perhaps Brussels is a bit easier than being in Mons. There are so many foreigners here. Guess I haven't said much but really just wanted to say "hi" and I hope things go well for you.

Hi to TallgalUK and ANZCAN too.

Ok, let me introduce myself.

I am here for till August, for an IT Contract at the EC (yawn). I speak fluent French, so getting on is not a problem. I am a mother of two (that's right, a mother), who are with their father in London. No point bringing the kids over for such a short time. I do speak to them twice a day, before school and before bed.
